Gabriel Le Mar is a music producer, living in Frankfurt/Germany, releasing electronic music with a special focus on deep DubTech sounds and Dub inspired TechHouse.
On his solo albums Gabriel produced tracks which are tailored for the dub inspired clubber, combining different playful approaches of Dub with the functionality and stringency of techhouse music. Bridges are built by energetic and minimal grooves. Expect a deep + soulful set...
The dub-feeling is clearly the inspiration behind his sound and will demonstrate innovative efforts to offer interesting hybrids of techno/house music.
With an open mind and always in a search for fresh musical experiences, Gabriel Le Mar likes to integrate himself in different artistic constellations with project pseudonyms such as Saafi Brothers and Aural Float into ambient, space and experimental sound scapes...
His first longplayers he produced with his projects Saafi Brothers and Aural Float, 10 solo albums and many co-ops followed.
With his coop with Dr. Motte, Gabriel steps on a new ground, releasing electronic dance music with a special focus on the various colours of deep Techno.
Next to his music projects Gabriel also works with Aural Float on audiovisual concepts: as a team they did the artistic supervision of SPACENIGHT, a prototype of an integral TV-concept, utilizing spectacular film- and documentary footage from outer space with music made on earth. A spacy sound to accompany the viewer for hours in space. SpaceNight became a success on german television and soon reached cult status among the young night watchers until today. Deep space in the wee hours - on air since 1996. End-of-Days sound for the next generation.
He arranged several remixes solo and with his projects for artists like Juli, Die Fantastischen Vier, Thomas D, a-ha, Xavier Naidoo, ich+ich, Sven Väth, Paul van Dyk...
Gabriel keeps on making waves. His mission remains the same today: exploring electronic music with a dub mindset.

I have many years now of experience, music, obsessions and dreams in my mind to work with. Everyday I`m thinking about music. Music is my project in life. There is something it`s telling me. That is a good term to describe it. I don`t have any particular ideas, just going into a mood, find something, something happened and that triggers a process. I work with my sound automaticly, layer the sound to make a balance between positions of clarity and complexity. Putting the things together, which reacts with me. I`m a music organizer and compose with my electronic setup.
When i was 10, i was fascinated being able playing the guitar, so I learned playing it on my own, asking fellow friends and jamming along to the music of my parents record selection.
It started, when i was 15. I bought a "Roland TB 303" synth from a friend who was a bassplayer and who later asked me to join his band where we used more electronic gear and especially Roland equipment so i could study and play with the machines as a side effect.
Our singer was a DJ and so i got a great introduction into club music and DJing as well and started to listen to lots of new music. It was clear to me that DJing is also a way of making music and expressing oneself.
We also recorded our music on reel-to-reel which was an inspiring process for me to realise the difference about sound and performance, and that many times less sound makes more space to listen to the actual music rather than layering sounds - finding out how that works has been a motivating and inspiring process for me and fills me with excitement until today.
I got all this music in my mind echoing from all sessions i did with my mates and see the music and ideas developing in realtime.
The whole thing of improvisation is one side of music and i like improvising with friends or on my own with the musical material i work on and try to keep things flowing, where nothing is static, and scratch out some kind of emotion to get it finally recorded.
As a kid i like watching commercials, which inspired me in adult age to study the subject of "media arts and communications" at the "University of Arts" in Berlin. That was an inspiring time, meeting and getting in contact with musicians, painters, copywriters and more multimedia focussed art people.
In those days i worked a lot on different free artistic concepts in order to explore what keeps me going and learn to see with my own eyes.
I started painting and getting involved into fine arts and "graphic design" including making professional trainings at advertising agencies, where i learned a different way of thinking conceptionally.
My approach to compose and write music was more of kinda playful and has to do with rhythms and chord changes and i realized analogies between creating music and working on graphic design. The questions are similar: finding elements that fit together or make contrast, creating counterparts in atmosphere, melody, sound and arrangement, keeping balance in these elements and bringing all material together in the mix or on the sheet...
Concerning me, my music is always coloured in with Dub aspects - Dub music fascinated me eversince - when i heard "Ruts TC meets the Mad Professor" on John Peel´s music in the radio i was kinda shocked from the sounds and mixing - it seemed to me like music from another planet and keeps being a bigtime inspiration for me until now.
So nowadays it is a kind of mixture, because when I´m gotting to play music I see the visual thing in the clubs and festivals as well as in the net and i started creating my own audiovisual world by using and synchronising the images with my music gear. I created my own visuals for my tracks and released them on a DVD-album (Reel Time) and started touring playing music and visuals at the same time live on stage.
Working with chords, harmonies and sound is more a sensual process than a theoretical one to me - getting there is more exciting than thinking about how to get there - it is a work in progress thing where i also try to surprise myself by using different means or personally uncommon ways and forget about my skills to reach exciting peaks.
Talking about style or handwrite in my sound i think i am having it but on the other hand i do not have enough distance to my creations when i work on them - only after quite some time when i feel like having moved away from that point i can listen to them again and i ask myself what does it do to me.
Live i like using little mixers and other "sound control tools" in order to do real-time sound changes paying respect to the fact that every live situation has it´s own dynamics concerning the people, the acoustic situation in the room and of course emotional states of the people and me. I like using both: analog media like turntables and cd-players as well as digital equipment that makes it easy for me to bring the sound of my studio on the floor.
I love going through waves concerning energy and flow - flowing grooves, sometimes pushing and forcing, and deep soundscapes that make you dance and feel.
